In 1975 Western Sierra Medical Clinic was started. A community-minded volunteer, led by frank lang, MICN, Nurse practitioner, opens a clinic to serve residents and tourists in the small town of Downieville. This clinic provides primary care services to the community.
Dr. Dee Dawkins founded miners clinic(1987) in Nevada county with a small group of broad members from the Community, Lupe Peterson, Tom Morrissey, Scott Browne, and Anita Daniels. Dr. Dawkins and the Board are committed to providing first-level healthcare to people in the region who do not have a physician or insufficient health insurance, relying on emergency homes for health care.
The two health centers share a common goal of community-focused healthcare. They merged in January 2010. The new and larger community has expanded beyond the original goal of the founders.
The new Western Sierra medical center is 19000 square feet in Grass Valley along with a new health center in Penn Valley, Auburn, and Kings Beach Tahoe are the latest efforts to ensure our commitment to community-centered quality healthcare.
Western Sierra Medical Clinic provides quality treatment, dental and behavioral healthcare and is expanding its specialty to meet the needs of residents in the region regardless of income or insurance coverage.
